Dear Riverview Community,
Throughout the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak, we have been providing weekly updates from different Riverview School District departments.
In this communication, we have updates from the following:
The Superintendent's Office
Teaching and Learning
Business and Operations
Dr. Anthony L. Smith
During this challenging time, I am so thankful for our community of caring that extends miles and miles from the doors of our schoolhouses that are currently closed. This week marked a transition from engagement around student learning activities, to continuous student learning through scheduled classes, assignments, and assessing student learning. Our teachers, support personnel, parents/guardians, and most of all, our students have made a successful transition to remote learning with specific expectations and scheduled coursework! We realize this is no small task and every learning environment is different, with differing challenges.
As we continue to support the learning of each and every student, we encourage you to contact your teachers with any questions you have. If you have a question about technology or anything else that may require additional district support, please access our "Engage - Riverview 407" website for more information at https://www.engage.rsd407.org/engagement, email us at email@example.com or simply call us at 425.844.4544 and leave a detailed message with your contact information. We will follow through quickly to address your needs.
Up next, we will be making final decisions about high school grades by the end of next week. Tuesday evening, of this week, the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) issued a legal and binding decision about our available choices. We are currently in communication with state officials, other school districts, and moving through a process with our Teachers, Principals, Superintendent's Cabinet, and School Board to reach the best decision for Riverview and its students.
In addition, we will confirm a plan for establishing Senior Graduation dates for Cedarcrest High School and the Riverview Learning Center (PARADE, CLIP, and CLEAR). We have approximately 210 seniors that are on-track to graduate and I am proud of every one of them for their grit and perseverance during the international pandemic health crisis. They are all champions!
Our district focus of "personalizing student learning with an equity lens" will be at the forefront of every difficult decision we are making on behalf of your children - our students! Your patience, flexibility, support, and partnership has been truly remarkable! We will continue to do every single thing we can to make this challenging situation the best it can be. I have no doubt we will be successful in working together to make sure every student succeeds!

IT has been busy with the "Engage" support site and the return to this new learning model after the spring break.
Student Privacy and Safety
All of the district tools are designed around student privacy and safety - this will always be our first priority. We understand the concerns we all hear around the use of Zoom in the news and across social media. The district operates our accounts through OSPI, and all staff are required to adhere to strict guidelines on meeting settings. It is also important to know that the use of Zoom is in addition to the availability of Microsoft Teams.
apParent - Parent Tool for Device Management
As a reminder, Riverview School District's Information Technology department offers the apParent tool to parents and guardians. The apParent tool allows parents and guardians to:
Lock the screen
Send messages to the computer
Set operating hours
Do a time-lapse recording of activity
This tool is available on all district laptops grades 3 through 12. To get started, please send an e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org. Additional information will be linked under IT Support on the "Engage" website (see link above).
We wish everyone the best during this time. Please continue to send inquiries to email@example.com or call the hotline at 425.844.4544.
Teaching & Learning
Director: Dr. Randy Stocker
Thank you for your support and understanding as we have moved into our first week of Remote Learning. By now, your child(ren) should have heard from his/her teacher and engaged in learning. As our Engagement model transitions into a Remote Learning model, we are looking forward to more structured learning experiences for our students and families. Questions for student learning and expectations can now go to teachers and schools while our "Engage" website will continue to be a place to share needs, suggestions, and feedback beyond the school based learning. We thank you for your support in the transition into Remote Learning.

Food Service Update:
Since the start of our school closure, through April 20th, we have served 9065 meals offered at 5 different locations.
Riverview is planning on continuing facility use rentals as soon as it is deemed safe by Governor Inslee to reopen for groups and social gatherings. We recognize some organizations rely on district facility use, including community churches, recreational groups, and city government. At this point, however, we do not have a date to resume facility rentals, but will continue to follow guidance from the governor on what steps need to be taken to reopen our facilities to the public and when it will be safe to do so.
I am excited to say that Riverview has completed the installation of a new upgraded digital radio system in our Transportation Department. This will be a great tool, not only for Transportation, but a much-needed safety and security enhancement for the whole district. During our school closure, our Transportation Department took advantage of the opportunity to have the system installed, and we will be ready to use the new radio system when staff and students return to school.
If you have any questions regarding any aspect of Riverview's response to the COVID-19 outbreak, please visit our "Engage" website (https://engage.rsd407.org), or contact Riverview School District through our hotline, (425) 844-4544, or via e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org.
